Workshops

Dancing can be a great way to express oneself and connect with others. However, for those who are blind or visually impaired, participating in a dance workshop may seem like a daunting task. Fortunately, at Unbound Dance Theatre we have developed dance workshops specifically tailored for those with visual impairments. These workshops often incorporate touch, verbal prompts and other sensory experiences to help participants fully engage with the music and movements.

What to expect?

Through movement and sound, the workshop participants will experience grounding, anchoring and breathing exercises as well as independent mobilisation of different body parts. Following a series of tasks or improvisation, they will alternatively shift their focus and attention to the way they move, the way they respond to music, the way they respond to other people moving, or to their imagination.

We use an innovative wearable technology for sound and movement interaction, echome. It creates a kinesonic experience, binding kinesthetic awareness with auditory perception.

Not only can these workshops provide a fun and inclusive environment for those with visual impairments to enjoy dance, but they can also have physical and mental health benefits. Through the freedom of movement, participants will feel connected to their body, and other people, gain trust and confidence and get a sense of connection, belonging and safety, mental & physical wellbeing. It can be a wonderful way to connect with others and explore the joy of dance.

Benefits of Joining:
- Discover the freedom of movement in a welcoming and supportive environment.
- Connect with a diverse and inclusive community of fellow participants.
- Gain confidence, both on and off the dance floor.
